This year Ron and I have all kinds of plans for our "Halloween Gardens". We start planting after April the 15th in anticipation of Halloween. Our gardens in the front of our house are all planned around the Halloween season. We use lots of oranges, whites, purples and our favorite Moonvines. This year we plan to add some special lighting and many other ideas we have! So be sure and keep up with our posts to this wonderful, magickal place, where Gardeners gather and share all their treats!!

Fall Is Arriving in the Ozarks

Fall in the Ozarks has arrived with cool nights and warm days!!! Our flowers we have nurtured all summer are at their peak and will soon be gone when the first frost arrives!! I love this time of year, it is one of my favorites. Soon I will be cleaning out all the beds and begin preparations for next Spring, the season of hope. Once the Chrysanthemums have faded we will plant our spring bulbs (Daffodils, Tulips and Hyacinths) that will come up in their place in the spring. They are perfect for planting in bulb gardens because by the time the Spring flowers have lost their glory the Chrysanthemums are beginning to sprout and they grow in their place. Season after season, each year they produce more and the garden becomes more beautiful as time goes by.

We use the round bed to plant spring bulbs and annuals in the spring! Winter hung around longer then usual and now we are being drenched with too much rain!! The warm, humid air has given my gardens a good start but we need more sun and less rain now!!! The Hydrangeas have buds just waiting to burst open. The peonies have already bloomed, the roses are blooming, a few day lilies and it won't be long before the Crype Myrtles bloom. We've planted several new varieties this year and we already have our Tomato plants planted and staked. Cherry tomatoes are my favorite! Yum Yum!! Now if the sun will just make its presence more regularly it will grow.

Slideshow of our Spring Flowers

This is a slideshow I made from pictures of our Spring Flowers and the State Park 2 blocks from our house. A walk to the park which was alive with activity; ducks, pigeons, beavers, turtles, rabbits and even a couple of snakes sunbathing on the warm rocks. I caught a shot of the water rushing across the rocks and the water drops in the picture seem to be in still motion. A bug happily crawling on the pear blossoms in my yard, my beautiful purple Hyacinths beginning to bloom in vivid colors from blue to purple. The Bluebird who has returned again this year to claim the birdhouse in our backyard. The little purple wild pansies and the clover with honey bees already busy gathering pollen. I made a mosaic of all the gifts of Mother Nature from her busy world that goes on around me every day. We can enjoy all of it if we just take the time to look.

Byrum Gardens

Ahhhhhhhh Spring!! I am so happy spring is almost here. I love keeping a blog on my gardening as the year progresses. Spring is the promise of all things new and so we being again. It is February 2009 and we have been clearing the woods and preparing the beds for planting.
